Maxtech Introduces the XWL-450, a Unique, Three-In-One Wireless LAN Station
Adapter
Cerritos, CA (April 16, 1999) -- Maxtech Corporation's NetPacer Wireless products are causing
a networking revolution because they save both time and money. Business Research Group, a market research firm,
predicts a sixfold expansion of the worldwide wireless LAN market by the year 2000, reaching more than $2 billion
in revenues.
The new Maxtech XWL-450 is unique because it includes a station adapter, wireless LAN repeater and micro access
point for SOHO solutions all in one compact device. The XWL-450 turns any desktop into a wireless desktop simply
by plugging into the existing network interface card. The small device (17 x 12.5 x 3cm) supports peer-to-peer
and infrastructure communications to wired networks via access points.
Because the XWL-450 is also a low-cost micro access point that includes a built-in repeater, it can save thousands
of dollars by eliminating the need for additional full-size access points.
The XWL-450 uses 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology with a 2dbi dipole antenna for indoor
applications. DSSS provides a signal that is protected by a redundant bit pattern for each bit to be transmitted.
Even if one or more bits in the chip are damaged during transmission, statistical techniques embedded in the radio
can recover the original data without the need for retransmission. The device meets IEEE 802.11 wireless standards.
The new Maxtech XWL-450 has a suggested retail price of $549 and is available from major distributors, including
Ingram Micro and Tech Data. For more information, call the Maxtech NetPacer Wireless Division at 1-888-318-8879,
